Atlético de Madrid will be attempting to take a positive result from tonight's Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid. Roberto Di Matteo's Schalke 04 were the last team to beat Real Madrid at the Bernabéu in the Champions League - the Germans became only the second team to put four goals past Los Blancos at home in a European game in Chamartín on 10 March 2015. Before that meeting, Madrid had gone four years without losing in Europe at their stadium - suffering a 0-2 loss to Barcelona in April 2011.
Huntelaar, the last visiting player to score a winner at the Bernabéu
Against Schalke, Madrid found themselves trailing three times - Cristiano cancelled out Christian Fuchs' opener then pulled Madrid level going in at the break after former madridista Klass-Jan Huntelaar had restored the visitors' lead. Benzema put the hosts in front just after the interval but Leroy Sané, then Huntelaar found a way past Casillas to make it 3-4 on the night. Madrid progressed, winning the tie 5-4 on aggregate and funnily enough met Atlético in the quarter final.
Morata shatters Madrid's dreams at the Bernabéu
Since Schalke's visit, Madrid have hosted 13 teams at their stadium in the competition, ioncluding Atlético, PSG and Bayern and have a return of 11 wins and two draws - one of which came later on in the same edition of the Champions League with Álvaro Morata scoring the decisive goal to dump his old club out at the semi-final stage.
