Marcos Llorente was taken to hospital after Alavés’ Copa del Rey final defeat to Barcelona, as a result of his clash of heads with Javier Mascherano in the first half.

Mascherano and Llorente clashed in 8th minute

Llorente and Mascherano challenged for an aerial ball in the eighth minute at the Calderón. With neither player willing to give an inch, their heads cracked together.

Mascherano left the pitch on a stretcher. He had blood pouring from his forehead, and had also injured his knee as he landed on the turf. Llorente, however, returned to the pitch with a bandage around his head, and managed to play the full match in the centre of midfield.

Llorente taken to hospital, given the all-clear

Llorente saluted the Alavés support at full time, it was his final match for the Basque club before returning to Real Madrid following the conclusion of his loan spell, before being taken to hospital for checks.

Alavés later confirmed via Twitter that Llorente had been given the all-clear, and would not have to spend the night in hospital.
