The radio broadcaster RAC-1 says Barça have asked Espanyol about the young left-back, but Los Pericos were unwilling to negotiate.

Barcelona have asked city rivals Espanyol about the availability of young left-back Aarón Martín, according to a report on Catalan radio.

Martín on Barcelona radar after failing to lure Theo

Having missed out on the seemingly Real Madrid-bound Theo Hernández, Barça are continuing to look at possible signings to strengthen their squad in the position, and RAC-1 says their attentions have turned to Martín, 20.

The Espanyol youth product proved a revelation for Quique Sánchez Flores' side last season after being given his first-team debut against Villarreal in October, going on to make a total of 31 appearances in all competitions.

Barcelona told to pay his buy-out clause

Los Pericos are said to have rebuffed Barça's advances out of hand, informing their near neighbours that their only option would be to trigger Martín's release clause, which is currently set at 30 million euros.

Under the terms of the five-year contract that the Spain U19 cap signed in January, that buy-out figure is due to rise to 40 million in June 2018.
