Mensah: Atlético Madrid send Ghanaian out on loan again
Midfielder Bernard Mensah has joined Turkish club Kasimpasa on a season-long deal, which includes an option to make the move permanent.
Atlético Madrid have confirmed the season-long loan of Ghana international Bernard Mensah to Turkish side Kasimpasa.
Mensah joined Atlético on a six-year deal in 2015 and is yet to make his first appearance for Diego Simeone’s side.
This is the third time that the 22-year-old midfielder has been sent out on loan by Los Rojiblancos.
Mensah: An Atlético career out on loan
In 2015, after being recommended by super-agent Jorge Mendes, whose clients include José Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo, Mensah was linked with a switch to Manchester United.
However, Atlético moved fastest to buy the player.
Since his arrival in Madrid in 2015 from Portuguese side Vitoria de Guimaraes, Mensah has spent the last two seasons on loan.
Immediately after being purchased by Atlético, Mensah was loaned out to fellow La Liga side Getafe CF.
At the end of the campaign, Getafe were relegated to the second division and the Ghanaian was then again loaned, this time to former club Guimaraes.
After a successful year in Portugal, Mensah will now play for the Istanbul-based team Kasimpasa.
Mensah "ready" for Turkish challenge
The Turkish side confirmed the move on their official website, revealing that they have negotiated an option to sign Mensah permanently after the loan is over.
"It's my first time of playing outside Portugal and Spain, but I'm ready," said Mensah.
Mensah made his debut for Ghana in a friendly match against Togo in 2015, scoring the only goal of the game.
Since then, he has made two more appearances for the Black Stars, one against Canada in 2015 and another against Mauritius in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
