Marco Asensio scores on another competition debut for Madrid
The 21-year-old was on target in Sunday's Spanish Supercup and has scored on his debut in every competition he has played in at club level.
He may only be 21 but Marco Asensio could go into football's history books this year. The Real Madrid No.20 hit the winning goal in last night's Spanish Supercup first leg against Barcelona - a spectacular finish which sweved away from Ter Stegen and inside the top corner. It was his first goal in his first game in the Spanish Supercup - something which is becoming a bit of a trend for him. In less than 12 months, Asensio has scored on his debut in every official club competition he has played in with Real Madrid.
Asensio gets off the mark in the UEFA Super Cup and LaLiga
His astonishing run started against Sevilla in August last year when he found the net on his competitive debut for Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup final. Just under a fortnight later Asensio made his league debut against Real Sociedad at Anoeta the opening day of the season. He crowned that occasion with another top-drawer finish - a classy chip over Gero Rulli in the 0-3 win.
First Champions League goal against Legia
On 18th October, Asensio got his first test of European club football when Madrid entertained Legia Warsaw on MatchDay 3 of the Champions League. True to form, he was on target in his first appearance in the tournament, scoring the team's third goal of the night. He had now made his debut in three different competitions and scored in all of them - less than three months after his first run-out for the team.
Eight days after the Legia game on 26th October, Madrid began their Copa del Rey campaign away at Cultural Leonesa with Asensio in the starting line-up. By minute 31 he had netted his first ever Cup goal for Madrid, who went on to win that away leg 1-7.
He was included in Zidane's squad for the Club World Cup in Yokohama but wasn't used by the coach in either of Madrid's games - against Club América or the final against Kashima Antlers.
Asensio's chance to make it 6 from 6 in Abu Dhabi
With yesterday's thunderball winner at Camp Nou, Asensio has made it five out of five and as Real Madrid successfully defended the Champions League - they will be one of the teams at this year's Club World Cup which will be held in the United Arab Emirates from 6 to 16 December. That will present Asensio with another opportunity to continue his mind-boggling run - and complete it. Should he do so, he will become the first player, and quite possibly the last, to achieve an exceptional and unique feat. The way he has been playing, this time he looks likely to feature.
