With the Diego Costa situation still not resolved, Premier League side Everton have potentially moved into a position to offer an escape route for the unwanted Chelsea striker.

Chelsea, Atlético and Everton

Having being told by the Stamford Bridge club that he is no longer part of their plans, Spanish international Costa seemed destined for a return to LaLiga with former club Atlético Madrid. Due to the Spanish side's Fifa sanctions, this move would likely involve the player going out on loan till January when he could then be registered to play for the rojiblancos. And although there has been much stalling and high friction between Chelsea and the striker, that loan option may be on the table for a Premier League team.

The manager of the Merseyside club, Ronald Koeman, was asked in a press conference whether further signings would be "permanent or temporary", to which he offered up the reply: "Is this about Costa?" He continued:

"Of course you like to sign players for the future, but if you can get the best one that way, then why not? That's for six months, the season, two years."

Costa to replace Lukaku goals?

The Toffees have done some excellent business in the early part of the transfer window and have also added Gylfi Sigurdsson to their squad. Many would argue though that after the loss of top marksman Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, Costa would be the perfect replacement, at least in the short term.
