Benzema posts his worst figures in the last seven years
So far this season, the Real Madrid centre-forward has played eight games - six in LaLiga and two in the Champions League, scoring just one goal.
Karim Benzema has gone off the boil, and his figures are more worrying than first thought. We need go back to the 2010-2011 season, his second season at Real Madrid, to find a less productive start to a campaign. So far this season he has contributed just one goal in eight games between LaLiga and the Champions League.
Madrid's 'BBC' hits the rocks
With the team steeped in the worst crisis since Zidane, Benzema's principal guardian, took the reins; with Gareth Bale hopping on and off the treatment table and Cristiano, whose own strike rate has strangely plummeted, rather than seize the opportunity to lift the team, Benzema is unintentionally adding to the problem.
The injury Benzema suffered in the Week 3 meeting with Levante didn't help. As a result he missed seven games. Since his return to first team action, he's scored just once - in the 1-2 win at Getafe, taking his total for the season to two including the one he scored in the Spanish Supercup return leg back in August.
