Umtiti's contract high on Barça's list of priorities

Following a string of fine performances, the club's sporting directors are keen to extend and improve the French defender's contract, which ends on 30 June 2021.

This season, Samuel Umtiti has repeatedly put in fine performances at the heart of Barça's defence and continues on his upward trajectory, started when he signed for Barcelona from Lyon in 2016 for 25 million euros.

Improved contract

The French defender's consistency on the pitch has not gone unnoticed by Los Culé's sporting directors, so much so that the club is keen to extend and improve on the defender's current contract, which runs unitl 30 June 2021. 

Operation Umtiti

The Catalan sports newspaper Sport ran the headline 'Operation Umtiti' on Sunday, and featured an article on how Barça will do everything to get the Frenchman to commit to the club. "Contact was made with the player's agent to improve his current contract and increase the buy-out clause to 60 million euros," a club spokesperson said.
