Pochettino on Kane: "If he asked to leave like Modric or Bale, we would have to see...."
The interview on Spanish television's El Chiringuito de Jugones with Pochettino aired on Wednesday with the Spurs manager discussing the future of Harry Kane.
Harry Kane's name remains underlined at Real Madrid. The Tottenham Hotspur striker, the highest goalscorer in 2017 with 56 goals, is a target for los Blancos next summer and Mauricio Pochettino has responded to the speculation surround his striker in an interview with El Chiringuito de Jugones that was recorded on December 19th and aired on Wednesday. Spurs' manager said, "Being responsible for a club like Tottenham, I would say if Real Madrid came, we would tell them we do not want to sell him. He would stay here and he would have to understand."
However, he did leave the door open if the player came and asked to leave. "If you look at it from a the personal side, if the player asked to go like Modric or Bale, we would have to see but today that has not happened. I hope that Harry Kane will be here for many years and bring lots of goals and victories and win some titles, that's what we want." In the case of Modric and Bale, the irreversible decision to sign for Real Madrid forced Daniel Levy's hand but that didn't mean the negotiations were easy as he is an infamously tought negotiator.
After giving the interview in El Chiringuito, Pochettino returned to speak about the potential price of his star striker. "Kane doesn't have a price because we love him here. He is off the market," Pochettino said. Kane has been in flying form for Spurs and finished the year with more goals than Messi and Ronaldo. The futures of Bale and Benzema remain in the air at the Bernabéu and Kane is being followed closely by the reigning Champions League and Liga winners.
