Ref got Real Madrid's second penalty decision spot on
AS' resident ref expert Iturralde González, says Montoya committed an infringement by "jumping into Benzema from behind and pushing him in the back".
With 37 minutes gone in today's Week 21 meeting between Valencia and Real Madrid, Martín Montoya gave away a penalty by nudging Karim Benzema in the back - a foul which match official Javier Estrada Fernández gave by pointing straight to the spot. Diario AS' resident ref Iturralde González explained why the match official got his decision spot on.
Montoya gives two penalties away at Mestalla
"Montoya comes flying in with his hands on Benzema; he's much slighter than the Madrid forward but if you jump from behind like that, it's a push and that's a penalty every time. You cannot defend a position when you are behind a player by jumping on him. Clear penalty...", Iturralde explained.
Cristiano converted both of the penalties awarded in the first half - Montoya was the culprit on both occasions but miraculously, stayed on the pitch.
