If Real Madrid are the dominant force on the European stage winning three of the past editions of the Champions League (with Barça the victors in 2015) then the tone in Spain is very much "azulgrana" tinged.

Barcelona scooped the league title in 2015 and 2016 and are currently in the driving seat to bag this season's LaLiga trophy. The Catalan outfit are also current Spanish Cup experts winning the copa in 2015, 2016 and 2017 with a win last night at Mestalla saw Valverde's stake a place in the April 21st final against Sevilla. Eternal rivals, Real Madrid in this period have added one league title, one Spanish and Super Cup to the Bernabeu trophy cabinet with Atlético claiming both league and  Supercopa in 2014. Athletic were the Supercopa victors from 2015.

Champions League objective 

The clear objective for the Catalan club under Ernesto Valverde is improve in Europe. On two occasions Atlético Madrid and last season Juventus were too strong for the Catalan side in the Champions League and the club have their sights firmly on a place in the 2017/18 Kiev final. The first obstacle in their way comes in the shape of current Premier League champions Chelsea with a tricky home and away tie against Antonio Conte's side.
