Germany coach Joachim Löw has announced his 27-player provisional squad for the World Cup in Russia with several new faces and some old regulars.

Löw has elected to include Manuel Neuer, who has missed much of the season through injury, as well as Marco Reus, who has also been on the sidelines for the much of the 2017-18 campaign, while Mario Gómez has earned a place after a fine season for Stuttgart.

There is no room in the reigning champions’ squad for Mario Götze though, the scorer of the winning goal in the final in Brazil four years ago missing out along with the likes of Shkodran Mustafi, Lars Stindl and Bayern Munich striker Sandro Wagner, who scored five times in qualifying. Emre Can, who is injured, also failed to make the cut.

Included in Löw’s squad are uncapped Freiburg striker Nils Petersen, who was in the side for the Olympic Games, and younger players including Leon Goretzka, Leroy Sané and Timo Werner, who has enjoyed an excellent season at Leipzig.

Germany have been drawn in Group F with Mexico, Sweden and South Korea and kick off their defence of the 2014 crown against The Tri on June 17.
