Tangier Stadium without electricity for the last 24 hours

The stadium that will play host to the Spanish Super Cup has been without electricity for the last 24 hours due to late payment of bills.

La Supercopa se disputará en Tánger.

The Ibn Batuta stadium in Tangier will host the Spanish Super Cup on the 12th of August between Sevilla and Barcelona. The stadium has been without electricity for the last 24 hours due to late payment of bills.

The state company in charge of paying the bill has failed to do so and Amendis, the electricity company, has cut off their supply. It is not believed that it will affect the Super Cup, however, as a source told Efe said "This will be resolved because nobody wants the failure of this event."

Sonarges is the company in charge of many of the big stadium in Morocco from Casablanca, Agadir and Marrakech and the have problems with finances on a regular basis. This version of the Spanish Super Cup is the first ever to be hold away from the Iberian Peninsula and the Spanish federation will be looking to make sure it goes off without a hitch.

It will be the third Super Cup held at the stadium, however, after the French Champions Trophy between Lyon and Marseille in 2011 and the same competition with PSG and Monaco in 2017.

Also, Barcelona played a friendly in this same venue in July 2012, when they beat (8-0) Raja Casablanca thanks to a hat-trick from Leo Messi and a double from Alexis Sanchez.
