Burkina Faso international Bakary Koné has joined newly promoted Turkish side Ankaragucu on a two-year deal with the option for an additional year.

The signing of the defender comes just a few days after he terminated his contract with the recently relegated Spanish side Málaga.

"I received many offers" – Koné

Koné, who has previously played in the French top flight with Guingamp and Lyon, said he received many offers from European clubs.

"I received many offers but Ankaragucu showed a lot of determination; that is why I chose to come here," the defender told the club’s website.

The 30-year-old joined Málaga from Lyon in the summer of 2016, but made just seven league appearances for the Andalusians.

Koné spent last season on loan at Ligue 1 club Strasbourg, where he made 27 league appearances.

Born in Ouagadougou, he has been capped 67 times by the Burkina Faso national team, playing in five consecutive Africa Cups of Nations in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017.

Nigerian forward Olanrewaju Kehinde has also joined Ankaragucu, signing a three-year deal with the Turkish capital club.
