Senegal legend Henri Camara quits football
After a rich career that spanned two decades, Senegal all-time top scorer announced his retirement from professional football at 41.
Senegal all-time top scorer Henri Camara has confirmed his retirement from professional football at the age of 41.
Camara, who is also the Teranga Lions’ most capped player, scored 31 goals in 99 appearances for the West African nation.
After stints with 18 clubs across France, Switzerland, England and Scotland, the legendary striker spent his final season with Athens’ club Fostiras FC.
Back in 2015, he had called time on his international career.
The generation of 2002
Nicknamed the ‘Bunting Rabbit’, Camara was one of the few still active players – along with Moussa N’Diaye and Souleymane Camara - of the Senegalese squad that caused a sensation at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan, when they beat reigning champions France in the opening match.
At that World Cup, Camara scored two goals, including an extra-time golden goal winner at the round of 16 against Sweden.
He was also a part of the Senegal squad for the 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.
