Valencia midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia has been called up by Central African Republic to play this week's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Ivory Coast in Bouaké.

Kondogbia was born in Nemours, France to Central African Republican parents and up until now, has always represented the country where he was born. He was part of the France side which won the Under-20 World Cup in 2013. Kondogbia had given up hope of ever being a regular for France at senior level after seeing players like Paul Pogba and N'Golo Kanté ahead of him in the pecking order.

Friendly appearances

That is the reason he has decided to accept a call-up from Raoul Savoy to play for Central African  Republic. Savoy wanted to call up the Valencia midfielder during the last international break but Kondogbia was out with an ankle injury. It's strange that Kondogbia has made five appearances for France's senior side under Didier Deschamps. He gained his first cap against Belgium in August 2013 and made another four appearances with Les Bleus in 2015, in the games against Brazil, Denmark, Albania and Serbia. But they were all friendly games which means he was able to change his FIFA nationality.
