McManaman was not optimistic about Solari's long term success at Real Madrid and says Florentino Perez will keep him around until he can sign Pochettino.

McManaman: "I think Solari will continue until Pérez can sign Pochettino"

Steve McManaman was not optimistic about Real Madrid's chances of success this season when asked by BeIN Sports. The former Real Madrid winger spoke on Solari, what he's like and who Florentino Perez wants in charge of the club.

I think they will stick with with Santiago Solari for now," he said. "I think Real Madrid are every close to getting back to winning ways again. If he was the job for the next four games, I can see him being successful and I can see Florentino sticking with him. It worked that way when Zidane took the job and he got the right results and I think it will work with Santiago Solari."

Solari different to Zidane says McManaman

"He's a different character to Zidane, he doesn't get involved in the politics of it all. If anything, he wants a quieter life so he will be less pragmatic as Zidane was at the time. I think they'll go with him until they can see a way of getting Pochettino," McManaman continued.

This forced the question to be asked whether the plot is to eventually bring in the Argentine.

"Only because, I can't see them being successful this year," he said. "And I think Solari would need success there. They look way behind others teams and they look way behind Barcelona in LaLiga. They don't look like they are going to do anything in the Champions League so unless they do some incredible business in January and get an incredible amount of luck, I can't see them being successful and if you're not successful, they'll change it around in the summer probably."
