Spanish football TV show 'El Chiringuito' reported late on Sunday evening that Santiago Solari will be given the coaching job at Real Madrid until the end of the season.

Under Spanish league rules Solari can only continue as interim coach until today, Monday, but after his four wins in four matches since he took over from sacked Julen Lopetegui the club have decided to give him the position for the remainder of the season.

Solari was asked about his position after the match against Celta, but refused to be drawn on the issue, saying only that tomorrow (Monday) would "in principle" be his last day.

Odriozola: players want Solari to stay

Real Madrid defender Álvaro Odriozola has said that that the players want interim coach Santiago Solari to stay on following Real Madrid’s 4-2 victory over Celta Vigo on Sunday night.

Madrid have enjoyed four victories on the trot under Solari, who was hired in a provisional role following the dismissal of Julen Lopetegui two weeks ago after a string of poor results, the last of which was the 5-1 defeat to Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

Solari’s official last day of work is tomorrow, as under the rules of the Spanish FA, a provisional coach can only be in place for two weeks from the day of his appointment. But Odriozola has offered his support for the interim coach, for whom he said the players “will go until death.”

“We’ll go until the death with Santiago – four victories, [we are] gaining confidence little by little and this victory was the most important because of the international break,” said Odriozola in an interview with Spanish television after the game.

Asked about whether he would like to see Solari continue after tomorrow, the full back responded: “We don’t decide these things; they decide them from the top. The only secret of us footballers is to work, work and work to come out of this slump. We are focused on this. Now we are focused to death with [Solari]. Of course we want to him to continue.”
