Atlético's Thomas Partey: "This is where I want to be"
The Ghana international posted a message to clarify his statement that he sometimes finds himself "unhappy" under Diego Simeone's tutelage.
Atlético Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has clarified his comments after the Espanyol game last weekend when the Ghana international said that he “sometimes feels unhappy” at the club.
Despite featuring in 21 games this season and starting 13, Thomas added: “To feel happy you have to play in the important games to feel stronger and with more confidence,” a reference to his omission from the Europa League final last season and the more recent Liga contest against Barcelona.
Thomas: "I feel I can be more important"
Speaking on social media, Thomas stated: “On Saturday after the game I made some comments that haven’t been taken as they were meant to be understood and I would like to explain myself more clearly. Atlético is the club where I want to be and where I would like to continue to grow as a player, because of the club and because of the fans. It is true that I feel I can still be even more important and that’s why I work hard every day. I don’t want to settle for less and that is good for me to be the best player I can be. Happy Christmas and Aupa Atleti!”
Thomas, 25, has played 1,247 minutes this season and is the 12th most-used player in Diego Simeone’s squad. The midfielder burst onto the scene at Atlético last season, making 50 appearances for a total of 3,442 minutes, which made him Simeone’s seventh most-used player overall.
