AC Milan to go all out for Cesc Fàbregas in January

Gennaro Gattuso's side have a good chance of securing Champions League football for the first time in years and see the Chelsea midfielder as a valuable addition.

Cesc Fàbregas has not been enjoying a regular starting berth under Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea, with N’Golo Kanté, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic the Italian’s preferred midfield three.

It is widely expected that the former Barça and Arsenal midfielder will seek pastures new in January with a queue of clubs forming for his services. Fàbregas is already understood to have held informal talks with Galatasaray, Atlético Madrid and PSG, but two other clubs have emerged in the running and either could be a more likely destination than those three.

Monaco manager Thierry Henry is keen to be reunited with his former Arsenal teammate in a bid to salvage his side’s season, but Italian broadcaster Mediaset have claimed that AC Milan are going to pull out the stops to land the 31-year-old.

Fàbregas is out of contract at Stamford Bridge next summer and it seems abundantly clear that he will not be extending his deal. Chelsea would therefore prefer to make some money out of a transfer in January rather than waiting until next summer when Fàbregas can leave on a free. A fee of 10 million euros has been mooted and Milan would happily meet that.

Gennaro Gattuso’s Milan are in a position to reach the Champions League again for the first time in years; the Rossoneri are currently in fifth, one point behind Lazio with Fiorentina and Sampdoria hot on their heels. Gattuso wants some experienced reinforcements in the winter window to push his side over the line and Fàbregas is seen as a perfect fit to add some guile to Milan’s midfield.
