Barça officials en route to Holland to close De Jong deal

Experience from attempt to sign Griezmann has made the club more prudent but on this ocassion, it looks like Barcelona will achieve their objective.

An expedition of Barcelona officials, possibly including president Josep Maria Bartomeu, as well as club CEO Òscar Grau, Director of Sport Pep Segura and  Technical Secretary Éric Abidal, flew out to Amsterdam this morning with the aim of clinching a deal with Ajax for the transfer of Frenkie de Jong to Barça in June.

Fingers burned with Griezmann

It seems that this time, unlike last summer's failed attempt to sign Antoine Griezmann, Barça will get their man although the experience of what happened with the Atlético forward has made the club take a more prudent tack rather than send out a message of optimism when there is always the chance that it could later backfire.

However, even in Holland, the general consensus is that the operation for De Jong will go through. Local daily De Telegraaf published this morning that Ajax and Barça have an agreement in place for the 21-year-old and report that the clubs have agreed a 90 million euro fee. Barcelona may even try to lower that figure by including one of their players in the deal with goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen looking the most likely candidate
