Marcelo on Cristiano Ronaldo's Real Madrid exit: "I had to lie"
Discussing Cristiano's departure from Real Madrid, Marcelo made an interesting admission in an interview with Esporte Interativo.
Brazilian media outlet Esporte Interativo has taken to social media to release a video teaser of an exclusive interview with Real Madrid's Marcelo - and it's a clip in which the left-back makes an interesting admission about Cristiano Ronaldo's summer departure from the LaLiga club.
Marcelo: Ronaldo told me about exit before Kiev final
Speaking to the journalist Tatiana Mantovani, Marcelo reveals that Cristiano told him he had decided to leave the Bernabéu in the week before May's Champions League final against Liverpool, which saw Los Blancos beat Liverpool 3-1 to claim their 13th European crown.
Here is Marcelo's conversation with Mantovani:
Marcelo: "Holy shit, we were training for the final and he [Ronaldo] said to me: 'I'm leaving.'"
Mantovani: "He told you before the final? That means you lied to me."
Marcelo: "Yes, I had to lie to you."

Marcelo appears to have kept his knowledge of Cristiano's exit to himself, at least when subsequently asked about it by Mantovani, until the striker's move to Serie A champions Juventus was confirmed six weeks after the final in Kiev.
