Iñaki Williams sounded out by English and Italian clubs
The Athletic Club forward's buy-out fee will rise from 84 to 88 million euros on 1 July. Several Italian clubs were interested in buying him last summer.
Iñaki Williams' superb performance against Barça at the weekend was further demonstration of the great moment of form the Athletic Club forward is in. It took an equally fine display from keeper Ter Stegen to keep the 24-year-old off the scoresheet. Williams is getting better with every year in Bilbao and has attracted interest from clubs in the Premier League and Serie A. One top English club enquired about the player in last month's transfer window but got cold feet when told to come back with the buy-out fee, which at the moment, is 84 million euros, and will rise to 88 million from 1 July. Williams insists he is very happy in Bilbao and has no intention of leaving.
Williams equals Garay's club record
Williams signed a contract extension with Athletic 12 months ago. His current contract will expire in June 2025 and his buy-out, originally set at 80 million will increase by four million every season, reaching 108 million by the time the player is in his final year. Several Italian clubs were considering paying Williams' buy-out fee last summer. During his five seasons with the first team, Williams has netted 43 goals in 169 games. He has figured in all Athletic's last 104 league games - equalling club legend Jesús Garay for the most consecutive appearances in LaLiga. Only ex-goalkeeper Carmelo Cedrún with 132 consecutive matches between 1950 and 1964, has more.
