Real Madrid: Mendy signing may not be confirmed until Monday

Real Madrid have an agreement in place to sign Ferland Mendy from Olympique Lyon, but want the French international left-back to undergo a second medical before they conclude the transfer - a state of affairs that looks like pushing any announcement of a deal back until Monday.

Madrid want a second look at Mendy hip

Having agreed the financial terms of the move, Lyon were keen to confirm the deal right away, but with doubts still lingering at Madrid over Mendy's recovery from a hip injury that kept him out of action in March and April, Los Blancos' medical staff would like to carry out a more detailed examination of the affected area before giving the green light to the 23-year-old's signing.

However, Mendy is currently on international duty with France in Turkey, and is unavailable for such tests until after Les Bleus return home from their Euro 2020 qualifier against Senol Günes' side in Konya on Saturday night.

55m-euro fee agreed with Lyon

Madrid are set to pay a fee of around 55 million euros for Mendy, who head coach Zinedine Zidane has identified as the ideal man to compete with first-choice left-back Marcelo in 2019/20. The Brazilian's present understudy, Sergio Reguilón, is expected to leave on loan this summer, while Theo Hernández - who spent last season at Real Sociedad - is also not in Zidane's plans.
