Courtois to Hazard: "Welcome to the best club in the world"
Thibaut Courtois became the first Real Madrid player to welcome Eden Hazard to his new club, after Los Blancos announced the signing of the Chelsea striker on a five-year deal.
After last summer’s World Cup in Russia, Thibaut Courtois made a poignant statement while he was in the middle of negotiating a move from Chelsea to Real Madrid.
"Wherever I go, Hazard must come along. We will not let each other go,” said the Belgian keeper, who signed for Los Blancos for 35 million euros not long after.
And now, almost one year later, his prophecy has become a reality, with Madrid finally confirming the signing of Hazard on a five-year deal that will keep him at the Bernabéu until 2024.
And Courtois became the first Madrid player to welcome Hazard to his new club, posting a photo of the pair together on Twitter accompanied with the message: “Welcome to the best club in the world!!!”
Hazard and Courtois: great friends united again at Madrid
The two players are currently training with Belgium ahead of their upcoming Euro qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Scotland. Following Scotland game on Tuesday, Hazard is set to fly to Madrid, where he will be officially unveiled as a Madrid player at the Santiago Bernabéu two days later.
Hazard and Courtois have been good friends for many years. And after having spent four seasons together at Chelsea from 2014 to 2018, the pair are set to become both international and club team mates once again.
