Qatar World Cup 2022 construction budget revealed

Since Qatar began preparing the stadiums and facilities for the World Cup 2022 there has been huge interest in the projects as well as the costs of these massive engineering works.

What these important projects guarantee, both for the public and all the participants in the World Cup, is an extremely high level of services across all the facilities at Qatar 2022.

At this year's St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which saw a prestigious international participation, Hassan Al Thawadi, General Secretary of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy said in statements to the Sputnik news agency, "The budget for football pitches and facilities is worth around six billion dollars [5.2 billion euros]. In addition to that amount and for further development across the country, there are other infrastructure investments which will no doubt be used for the World Cup.

"Our main objective is more than just the tournament. We are working for the development of the country and to invest in this area. For example, taking advantage of the transport infrastructure and work done in this area for the metro project. Another advantage of the project is to offer employment opportunities,” he added.

"Undoubtedly, the World Cup and the construction activity underway for it brings advantages for the country and promotes economic activity."

In order to benefit from the successful experience of Russia in hosting the 2018 World Cup, given the international praise they received for their organisation, El Thawady added, "We are always in contact with the Russians to take advantage of their experience”.

Al Janoub was officially opened on May 16, with the final of the Prince's Cup of Qatar being held there. Al Janoub is the second World Cup stadium in Qatar to be finished; the first was the Khalifa International Stadium, which opened in May 2017.
