Rapinoe asks FIFA for more support for women's football
True to her style, the US midfielder raised her voice and expressed her feelings about the current state of women's football throughout the world.
Megan Rapinoe took the opportunity to talk about the present state of women's football and the role FIFA has played in this regard at the Women's World Cup, which is currently being played in France.
In the American player's opinion, the women's national team need to have more warm-up games, besides questioning FIFA on the money that goes to women's football.
"If we want to talk about strengthening the game top to bottom, let's talk about FIFA. Is FIFA putting all the money that they can into all of these federations leading up? I've heard stories of Chile only playing a couple of games in the last three years, Argentina [too]. I don't know how many games Thailand played," she stated.
Happy with USA performance
Rapinoe said that at the moment everything works and runs well in the US Soccer Federation, but her thinking goes further field and she believes FIFA should promote greater organisation in every area.
"We [United States] are playing as well as we can. Obviously, our federation supports us very well. I think it's on FIFA to invest a lot more money and mandate to all these federations around the world to invest in their women's programmes, not only from a financial point of view but also from a structural one," Rapinoe mentioned.
The US women's national team debuted with an outstanding 13-0 victory over Thailand; their second group stage match will be on Sunday, 16 June against Chile.
