Man United agree world-record fee for Harry Maguire

UK reports claim that United have beaten local rivals City to Maguire’s signature, with the 26-year-old defender set to complete a medical in Manchester on Monday.

Man United agree world-record fee for Harry Maguire

Manchester United and Leicester have come to an agreement on Harry Maguire which will see the England international join the Red Devils for a world-record £80million (89 million euros), according to reports in the UK.

British daily The Sun claims that United have beaten local rivals City to Maguire’s signature, with the 26-year-old defender set to complete a medical in Manchester on Monday.

The £80 million figure to be paid by the Old Trafford outfit would make the Leicester centre back the world’s most expensive defender, beating the current record held by Virgil van Dijk, for whom Liverpool paid Southampton £75 million in January, 2018.

The Sun understands that United will pay Leicester £60m for Maguire, with an extra £20m available in add-ons.

Maguire to form part of Man Utd rebuild under Solskjaer

Maguire would become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s third summer signing to date, as the Norwegian coach looks to rebuild his squad with the aim of securing a Champions League spot next season in his first full season in charge.

Following the £50 million paid for Crystal Palace full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and £15 million pounds for Swansea winger Daniel James, the reported fee for Maguire would bring United’s summer spend to £145 million – with more new recruits still expected to be confirmed at Old Trafford before the transfer window close on 8 August.
