Barcelona Twitter hijacked by gloating Liverpool fans

The Premier League club are not going to forget that 'Anfield miracle' in the semi-final of the 2018/19 Champions League anytime soon.

Update:
Barcelona Twitter hijacked by gloating Liverpool fans

The first day of June may already be a fading memory for many football fans as summer holidays are in full flow, teams are well into their pre-season preparations, and opening games of the new campaigns are now in sight. But for Liverpool supporters, any opportunity to remember their sixth European Cup victory, and what led up to it, is a chance not to be missed.

Miracle/debacle of Anfield reminded

The semi-final that saw Spanish champions Barcelona blow a first-leg 3-0 lead at Anfield will be reminisced about for years by fans of The Reds, and will make the gut churn for those in the blaugrana faithful. But as football rivalry goes, schadenfreude is something that appears to be fair game whenever possible.

So when the Barcelona social media team posted a caption contest for a photograph of some of their heroes flying out for pre-season, it was like waving a red rag to a bull. The appropriately-coloured supporters jumped to it with comments in the style of, "getting ready to blow a 3-0 lead, like", and "Corner taken quickly...ORIGI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" hitting hard with memories of that fateful night in Liverpool.

Another must have really hurt, pointing to Barça's over-confidence ahead of the second leg: "We score, Liverpool need FIVE - and we're going to get at least one... agreed?"

There were a wide variety of other comments, pictures and GIFs, some focused more directly on manager Ernesto Valverde's perceived failings. And, as you'd expect, there was a bit of 'fruity' language thrown in there too, so careful if reading in front of any littl'uns.
