Tim Howard to be honored in the USA vs Mexico game

The legendary United States men's national team goalkeeper will retire once the MLS season ends, for which US Soccer will recognize him prior the Concacaf Classic.

The game between the United States and Mexico this Friday, September 6, will have a special feeling, not just because its the Concacaf Classic, but also because before the game, a USMNT legend will receive the recognition bestowed to players retiring from professional soccer in 2019 and beyond.

Tim Howard will be the honoree of the game and via a statement, US Soccer confirmed the ceremony would take place before the starting whistle. Howard played three World Cups, and after more than 20 years the goalkeeper will hang his gloves at the end of the MLS season.

Howard's career

Tim Howard debuted with the MetroStars in 1998 to later move to New York Red Bulls where he made the leap to European football where he stayed for 14 seasons with Manchester United and Everton before returning to the States in 2016, joining the Colorado Rapids

With the US National Team, Howard made his debut in 2002 playing the 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cups. Tim Howard also has multiple Gold Cup participation winning the 2007 and 2017 editions.
