BARCELONA 0-REAL MADRID 0

Barcelona player ratings vs Real Madrid

Barcelona's player ratings from the Clásico as they failed to score at home and might feel glad to get a point. Ter Stegen stood out as did De Jong at times.

Barcelona player ratings vs Real Madrid
GORKA LEIZADIARIO AS

Ter Stegen: The German went into wall mode again on Wednesday night. Several important interventions and rejected Valverde along with Casemiro. Great, as always, with the ball at his feet and his distribution created many Barcelona attacks - 8.

Semedo: Quiet game from the Portguese. He has a lot of problems with Mendy's energy on his wing. Suffered a lot defensively and didn't do much of note in attack - 5.

Piqué: Immense again. Cleared the ball off the line from Casemiro's header and rejected Real Madrid time and again. Getting back to his best - 8.

Lenglet: A strange game for the usually reliable French defender. He was booked for a foul on Isco, had a couple of rash challenges including the one on Varane that should have been a penalty. Cleared one ball that went straight a Madrid player. Not his usual self at all - 5.

Alba: Still not the left-back we all have come to know but was decent in the first half. Messi dropped a perfect pass onto his foot but he missed it with just Courtois to beat. Passed a nice ball into the box for Suarez. Did die out as an attacking threat but defended quite well - 6.

Rakitic: Played in the defensive pivot as a late replacement for Sergio Busquets. Effective without ever being brilliant. Overloaded in the first half at times but did improve in the second half - 6.

Sergi Roberto: Didn't look comfortable in midfield. When he dropped inside, he was out of sorts and out of position for passes that should be routine. Improved when he went out to the right and it's becoming more and more evident that his role is not in midfield - 5.

De Jong: The Dutch midfielder was the best player in the centre without ever having enough influence on the game. But he did look like he wanted to make something happen and had a couple of exceptional passes through the lines. Had one good shot after a nice one-two with Suarez. Courtois saved. Keeps improving - 8.

Messi: Won the most amount of tackles for Barceona with 4 and got through plenty of work. He spent more time playing in midfield than in attack as he desperately tried to change the course of the game and win superiority for his team. He had a great chance from a Griezmann pass but couldn't finish what is usually bread and butter for him - 8

Luis Suárez: Spent half the game on the ground because of a series of slips. Didn't have a particularly fruitful day in attack but delivered his non-negotiables - sacrifice and effort - 6.

Griezmann: A difficult game to asses from the Frenchman. Generous when it came to defending but did little in attack. The striker has still not taken to life at Barcelona and while he gave a good pass to Messi for a potential goal, the Argentine could not conver - 6.

Substitutes

Arturo Vidal: Has everything necessary to be a success. His willingness and physicality gave Barcelona more presence and made them more of a threat in attack too.

Ansu Fati: Came on in the 82nd minute. In his first Clásico, he was keen to get on the ball and make something happen. Caught by Carvajal, which provoked a yellow, as he was baptised in his maidan Real Madrid clash.
