Monterrey: "It is not right that Beckham spoke to Pizarro before the deal was closed"

Monterrey: "It is not right that Beckham spoke to Pizarro before the deal was closed"

After weeks of speculation and negotiations, Monterrey finally decided to sell Rodolfo Pizarro to Inter Miami. The 25-year-old won the Liga MX title and the Champions League with Rayados and now he wants to help build the history of David Beckham’s franchise in MLS.

However, things did not end well between both teams after they concluded the negotiations. Dulio Davino, Monterrey’s sporting director, was interviewed recently by Fox Sports where he found out about Beckham contacting Pizarro before negotiations ended.

I am worried about Beckham FaceTiming Pizarro to convince him to continue his career in Major League Soccer because at the time I am sure he wanted to stay with us. What he did is not fair so I talked to our lawyers and they will proceed with the case, if there is any,” said Davino.

Davino was very surprised when Pizarro told him he wanted to leave Monterrey to play for Inter Miami in the MLS. “We knew when we signed Pizarro from Chivas that he wanted to leave to Europe and we liked that our players have that ambition, especially if they are from Mexican nationality," he said. "When I first spoke to him a year and a half ago, we waited a whole month for a team from Europe to make an offer but it never came. That is why we are surprised he suddenly decided to play in MLS.”

Pizarro wanted a new challenge

Pizarro was in the airport waiting for his flight to Miami when reporters intercepted him and asked him why he made this decision. “Like many people said I could have done more for Monterrey," the player explained, "but the team had nine years without winning important titles and I won two with them so I think my job is done here.”
