Rodrygo out of Clásico as Real Madrid appeal rejected
The Brazilian forward was sent off while playing for Real Madrid's 'B' team last weekend for his provocative goal celebration and will now miss the Barcelona clash.
Rodrygo’s sending off for Castilla (Real Madrid’s ‘B’ team) last weekend has proven to be a very costly error the young Brazilian.
The 18-year-old forward was handed a second yellow immediately after scoring in the game against San Sebastian de los Reyes for attempting to provoke goalkeeper Xabi Irureta during his goal celebration. Such was Irureta’s ire with Rodrygo’s actions that he went as far as to call the Madrid winger “a brat” in an interview after the game.
Rodrygo will miss El Clásico
With Barcelona looming this weekend, Real Madrid lodged an appeal for Rodrygo’s red card in a bid to clear him for selection for the top-of-the-table clash at the Bernabéu. But Los Blancos’ appeal has been rejected by LaLiga’s disciplinary committee.
As a result, the Brazilian teenager will be banned from participating in Sunday’s game. He will also be unavailable to Castilla coach Raul for his side’s meeting with Pontvedra on the same day. Madrid will have to pay a fine of 45 euros, while the player himself must pay 185 euros.
