Real Madrid: Upamecano set to renew with Leipzig
The French central defender will sign a one-year contract extension according to Sky Sports despite attracting interest from both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
Dayot Upamecano's future might not be at Bayern or Real Madrid as speculated. Just one day after Bild reported that the Bundesliga side had reached an agreement with the central defender, Sky Sports says that is not true. They say the French defender will sign a renewal with Red Bull Leipzig.
The 21-year-old is not short of admiration and Bayern and Real Madrid are amongst those keeping track of his rise. Sky say he has to stay at Leipzig for one more year before making the big step into Europe's elite despite previously being keen to make a move. Given his age, he will sign a renewal with the German side until 2022 with a release clause that will come into effect next summer. The saga regarding his future has been put off for another year.
It remains to be seen what that release clause will be. According to Bild, it could rise to €60 million in the case that he joins another Bundesliga club. That would increase if he was planning a move abroad.
