Ligue 1 side Rennes are doing all they can to keep teenage sensation Eduardo Camavinga away from the lure of the Santiago Bernabéu side as they strive to keep the player in Brittany for one more season. The French side will be participating in the Champions League next season which is an added incentive for the teenager to remain in France and this was something not lost on club president Nicolas Holvec as he spoke to RTL: “The plan for Eduardo Camavinga is for him to carry on with his progression here at Rennes with great things expected from him next season”.

Keep the team intact

Club owner François Pinault has also made it clear that the player who is out of contract in 2022 will turn a deaf ear to the overtures of the likes of Real Madrid despite contact already established between the Spanish side and the player's representative. He added: “Our priority is to keep the team intact as they have already displayed what a talented group they are. We need to be clever in the transfer market with our objective to progress from the qualification round of the Champions League”.

First team coach Julien Stéphan has also added his weight to the bid for Camavinga to stay with Rennes claiming: “I'd strongly advise him to stay with Rennes for one more season as this club is perfect for his development and I believe he still has a few steps to make before making the leap to a big European side. The Ligue 1's side strong financial position is another reason for wanting to retain the teenager with the player himself stating that he plans to make a decision regarding his future when the current season finishes in Europe.
