All set for Gold Cup 2021 after successful draw
The United States are in the same group as Canada, Martinique and a team to be determined in Group B of the 2021 Gold Cup after the draw was made in Miami.
The 2021 Gold Cup draw was held in Miami on Monday and the United States will face Canada, Martinique and a team that will be determined after a Preliminary Round in Group B. This will be a tough group for the USMNT, because Canada has a group of young talented players like Alphonso Davies and Mark-Anthony Kaye.
“They have talent and for them it’s about putting it together and competing as a team and they’ve shown to be making progress on that. They were two challenging games when we played them. They kicked our butt up in Toronto and we beat them pretty good in Orlando. And we’re looking forward to playing them in the Gold Cup because we know it’s going to be a competitive game,” commented USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter.
Mexico the current champion
The team to beat is Mexico, who won the last Gold Cup and will face El Salvador, Curacao and another team to be determined after a Preliminary Round in Group A. The 2021 Gold Cup will start on 10 July and the final is expected to be played on 1 August. Venues will be determined at a later date.
