On 6 October 2019 Carlos Vela broke all records in Major League Soccer when he scored a hat-trick against Colorado Rapids in the last game of the regular season. The Mexican striker broke all personal records in 2019 and helped Los Angeles FC to win the Supporters Shield, the first trophy in their history.

MVP Season

Carlos Vela had his mind set in winning the Most Valuable Player trophy and he ended up scoring 34 goals in 31 games during the regular season, breaking the record established by Josef Martinez who scored 31 in 2018.

The LAFC Captain also gave 15 assists in a single season, breaking the record previously established by Giovinco during his time with Toronto in Major League Soccer. At the end of the regular campaign Carlos Vela was awarded with the MVP and Golden Boot trophies for what he did in 2019.

Injury has kept him off the field

Unfortunately Carlos Vela suffered a knee injury on 22 August when the league announced to continue the 2020 campaign amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Mexican striker had to be subbed out in the second half of LAFC’s defeat2-0 to LA Galaxy at the Banc of California stadium.

He continues to recover from that injury but it is not known when he will return to play or if he will be out for the remainder of the year. LAFC’s coach Bob Bradley said that he continues to work on rehabilitation but it could take some time until he returns to full fitness.
