Schelotto not concerned about LA Galaxy rumours

Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s days could be numbered as manager of Los Angeles Galaxy after taking the job in 2019. Currently the team are in last place of the Western Conference with 18 out of 51 possible points and just five games left of the regular season. The LA Galaxy managed to end a six game losing streak on Sunday by defeating Vancouver 1-0 at home.

Due to the current form of the LA Galaxy the board have been left wondering if Schelotto is the right man for the job. Last week, it was rumored that former club legend Robbie Keane was the favourite to replace the Argentine, and when asked about his future, Schelotto didn’t seem worried about the rumours.

“I know what football is like. I know what the media is like in situations like the one we’ve gone through in recent times. We’re part of that football and there’s more pressure in some places than others. In some places there is less time than others, but I understand football and I have nothing to say. I know what we are doing, I know the number of young players that are playing and in terms of me (and the future), I have nothing to say,” Schelotto said.

Chicharito to the bench

Things have not been easy for Schelotto since Zlatan Ibrahimovic left the team at the end of last season. The LA Galaxy brought Javier Hernández in to fill in the gap left by the Swedish striker, but the Mexican has not adapted well to the team and the league. Chicharito has scored just once in 10 official games and Schelotto decided to leave him out for the game against Vancouver.

Chicharito came on in the second half of the game when Yony González got injured in the 50th minute. The Mexican striker missed a clear chance and it was youngster Kai Koreniuk who gave the team the victory. The next game for the LA Galaxy is against LAFC on 25 October and they need to win the game to make a late playoff run.
