Xavi's Al Sadd show attacking potency with 20 goals in five games

Xavi Hernández's Al Sadd top the Qatar Stars League with 13 points after five matchdays, a position which reflects the Spaniard’s determination to regain the domestic title after losing out to Al Duhail in his first season as the side’s head coach.

Al Sadd not only have the most points, but are also the most prolific team in the league, having scored 20 goals so far at a rate of four per match. Despite being without Algerian Baghdad Bounedjah, Xavi’s men hit seven last time out against Al Ahly, who had gone into the clash leading the league with 12 points from a possible 12.

This abundance of goals reflects the attacking potency of Al Sadd this season and Xavi's ability to impose his style of play on other teams in the league. Even in the match the team drew against Al Khor, Al Sadd produced an impressive display.

Al Sadd boast players with goalscoring ability in every area of the pitch, and in the clash with Al Ahly, Xavi was able to make up for the absence of Bounedjah by fielding Aspire Academy graduate Hashim Ali, who delivered an excellent performance, scoring two of the team’s seven goals.

Al Sadd are not only strong going forward, but also have the league’s meanest defence, having conceded just four goals in five matches - less than one a game. This is despite the absence of first-choice goalkeeper Saad Al Sheeb, whose place has been taken by youngster Meshaal Barshim, another Aspire graduate, who is the brother of high jump world champion Mutaz Essa Barshim.
