Weston McKennie is on loan at Juventus this season from Schalke and the United States international has made four appearances Serie A despite missing a couple of games after testing positive for covid-19.

The 22-year-old was included in the Juventus starting XI against Spezia and he provided an assist for Álvaro Morata to open the scoring in the Stadio Alberto Picco. The Old Lady ended up winning 4-1 with McKennie being replaced by Aaron Ramsey in the 62nd minute of the game.

Midfield role under Andrea Pirlo

Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo has been playing McKennie on the right of midfield and the US international combined with Rodrigo Betancur inside the box to assist Morata, the Spain international giving Juventus the lead in the first half.

In doing so, McKennie became the first American player assist a goal in Serie A and he is becoming a fundamental player in Pirlo’s starting XI. Next up for Juventus is Ferencváros in the Champions League.
