England take on the Republic of Ireland in an interesting warm-up match ahead of their final Nations League games against Belgium and Iceland respectively in the coming days.

The visitors, with no chance of qualifying for the next round of the competition (they haven’t prevailed in any of their four games in Group B4) will try to upset The Three Lions at Wembley.

For their part, Gareth Southgate’s team will try to get back to winning ways after suffering a surprising defeat to Denmark in their last Nations League match, where Marcus Rashford, Harry Kane and Jadon Sancho couldn’t break down the Danish defence line.

For the match against Ireland, Southgate won’t be able to call upon Trent Alexander-Arnold, due to a calf injury suffered in Liverpool's draw at Manchester City, but Rashford should be able to play after recovering from a shoulder problem.

Jude Bellingham has been called up as a replacement for James Ward-Prowse, ruled out due to injury, while Maguire and Reece James, both suspended for the Belgium match, could feature from the beginning.

Joe Gomez has undergone surgery to correct the knee injury suffered during national team training on Wednesday. The Liverpool defender, who has avoided ligament damage, could be back in action this season, although a timescale is unknown, and it is more likely to be nearer the end of the campaign.

Bukayo Saka and Tyrone Mings both have a chance at making the starting line-up.

As for The Boys in Green, who are looking to avoid relegation from their Nations League group, they will be without David McGoldrick after he announced his retirement from the national team.

Meanwhile Enda Stevens and Aaron Connolly have been ruled out through injury and Callum Robinson has tested positive for coronavirus so will miss out as well.

Stephen Kenny has called up Everton’s Seamus Coleman, while Liverpool’s uncapped Caoimhin Kelleher has also joined up with the national team.

Adam Idah, Jayson Molumby and Dara O’Shea could feature from the start.
