Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Tom Brady has splashed out, and rather literally.

Tom Brady’s new super boat

According to the reports, the boat in question, a 40-foot custom-made vessel, was delivered to St Petersburg on Thursday. We’re still trying to fathom all the details but as yet we have at least learned that the boat’s name is Viva A Vida. This is the same name as the initiative that his wife, Gisele Bundchen, is involved in. The supermodel is a passionate advocate for environmental concerns and her website - read all about it here - gives people the chance to ‘gift a better planet’.

The name aside, many onlookers have been keen to get an idea of what the stylish blue and white boat cost Brady. Unfortunately TMZ Sports, who initially brought us the story, were unable to reveal the price tag, although estimates put it at around 2-3 million US dollars. A drop in the ocean to Brady whose two-year contract with the Bucs is worth $50 million, and that’s on top of a whole lot more that he’s sacculated from football and sponsorships.

Of course, Brady is not the first sports star to go crazy for a sea-faring vessel. Across in Europe, the well-paid players of the other form of ‘football’ have also taken the plunge with some buoyant investments. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo avoided all but the zoom-lenses by holidaying on theirs whenever there was a break in their schedule. Neymar Jr owned one that cost around $4 million called Nadine, in honour of his mother, although he did encounter a few issues over his tax. And here’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic showing off from the deck.

Arguably the greatest tennis player of all time, Spain’s Rafa Nadal was a big fan of boating - he is from the island of Mallorca after all - and we told you last year about him looking to sell this beauty, worth around $3 million.

It’s a tough life for some.
