The current Portuguese and Italian champions, Porto and Juventus, will go head-to-head at the Estadio do Dragão in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.
One of the main focuses of the encounter will be Cristiano Ronaldo. The former Sporting academy graduate will be returning to his country to face old rivals Porto and that will probably be a good motivation for him to try to score and help 'La Vecchia Signora’ to get a good result. However, the Portuguese superstar has won just one of his six matches against Porto in his career.
Cristiano Ronaldo always a threat
Ronaldo’s ambition seems not to have limits and he will try to elevate the team’s level - as he did at Real Madrid - when needed in order to reach the final and win a sixth Champions League title.
Although Juventus are not having their best season, they have improved their game and results over the last weeks, despite their Serie A loss to Napoli last time out.
Juventus took first place in Group G after a 3-0 win over Barcelona at Camp Nou in their last Champions League outing, progressing to the knockout stages for the seventh successive year.
Stats prove Porto are a solid team
Porto’s performance in Group C was actually quite good: they finished in second position behind heavy favourites Manchester City, winning four of their six games as they progressed to the knockout phase for the fourth time in a row.
The hosts have some injury issues in their squad. Nanu and Zaidu Sanusi have been unavailable through injury recently, as well as midfielder Otavio, who hasn’t recovered from a muscle injury.
Taremi and Marega up front
Mehdi Taremi and Moussa Marega are expected to be the men to threaten the Italian goal, since they have a combined 15 goals and 10 assists in the Portuguese league so far.
Ramsey and Dybala travelled to Portugal
As for the visitors, they won’t be able to call upon Juan Cuadrado, who suffered a muscle injury last Saturday against Napoli, so Danilo and Alex Sandro will be in charge of defensive duties.
Arthur has stayed in Turin, while Aaron Ramsey and Paulo Dybala have travelled with the team. Federico Chiesa will probably be in the starting XI while Weston McKennie could take Federico Bernardeschi’s spot.
And in the attack, it seems there is not much debate: Cristiano Ronaldo and Álvaro Morata will be the chosen ones once again. The Spanish forward has scored six goals in the Champions League this season and is tied at the top of the competition scoring charts.
