Henry Martín led Club América to their third victory in a row

Club América visited Atlas for matchday 7 of the 2021 Guardianes tournament. The Eagles were seeking their third victory in a row against the team from Guadalajara and manager Santiago Solari had a full team at his disposal for this game.

It was the 25th minute of the game when Jesús Angulo tackled Pedro Aquino in front of the referee Fernando Guerrero. After a few minutes of consulting the foul with the VAR, Guerrero showed the red card to the defender and Atlas had to continue the match with one less player.

In the 39th minute of the first half, Atlas defender Brayton Vázquez tackled Henry Martín from the back inside the six and the referee didn’t hesitate to call a penalty in favor of the visiting team. It was the Mexican international striker incharge to kick the penalty and score the first goal of the game.

This was Martín’s third goal in seven matches and he climbed up to eighth place in the topscorers list of the tournament. The visiting team was superior during the first 45 minutes of the game and Atlas couldn’t find the equalizer before the break.

Late goal to seal the victory

The second half started with América controlling the possession of the ball, but they had a hard time finishing the offensive plays to seal the victory. Santiago Solari wanted to freshen up his offense and in the 78th minute he substituted Henry Martín with Richard Sánchez.

The No 20 made an impact in the game and in stoppage time he scored the second and final goal to give Club América the three points. With this result the Eagles remain undefeated in their last five games under manager Santiago Solari and they are on top of the table with 16 points and a record of 5-1-1. Their next game will be at home against Pachuca on 27 February.
