Golfer Tiger Woods was hospitalized on Tuesday after being involved in a single-vehicle accident in Los Angeles, police said.
The vehicle sustained major damage and Woods was extricated from the wreck with the "jaws of life" by firefighters and paramedics, then transported to a local hospital by ambulance, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.
Police responded to a roll-over traffic collision at approximately 7:12 a.m. local time and said a traffic investigation was being conducted, the department said.
The 45-year-old American had hosted the annual Genesis Invitational at the Riviera Country Club over the weekend but did not compete due to ongoing issues with his surgically-repaired back.
Congrats to @maxhoma23 on an amazing playoff finish and for making LA proud. Thank you to @GenesisUSA and everyone who has supported @TGRFound this year. Riv is a very special place and we already can’t wait to be back. pic.twitter.com/ew8S76L7gg

Distinguished career
The 45-year-old Tiger Woods is widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time and one of the most famous athletes of all time. He will be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2021.
The Californian born golfer has won 15 major Championships in a glittering career since he burst onto the scene as a 20-year-old professional in 1996. It was at the Augusta Masters in 1997 where he made his breakthrough as a household name with a 12 stroke win over fellow American Tom Kite.
The Orange County native would go onto win a further four US Masters with the last victory coming back in 2019, his first and only major in the decade.
Three British and US Opens along with four PGA Championships are the other major titles won by the 11 times PGA Player of the Year.
