Real Madrid decide against surgery option for Hazard
According to Gol, the club has decided to follow a conservative course of treatment with Eden Hazard, which is what Belgium had wanted.
Eden Hazard will not undergo surgery, at least not for the time being - a decision which will surely please the Belgian FA. After discussing the matter with the player, it has been decided that he should follow a conservative course of treatment as doctors are still in the dark about the source of his injury problems, Gol Televsion reports. Diario AS reported yesterday that the club would prefer Hazard not to undergo an operation. Madrid have been in permanent contact with the Belgian FA and with Hazard's consent, have requested that they send over a physiotherapist to Madrid to help the player with his day-to-day recovery. Gol also mentions that the club have spoke to coach Roberto Martínez to explain that for now, Hazard will not be operated on. First they will see how he responds to treatment and how he evolves with a course of physiotherapy. However, it is an approach which if unsuccessful, could mean that Hazard might miss Euro 2020.
The priority right now is to find out where the problem is originating from. The player flew over to London to get a second medical opinion on whether his ankle could be influencing his constant muscular problems. Zidane told reporters before the Champions League return leg against Atalanta that there is still no explanation for Hazard's latest injury. Since he joined Real Madrid, Hazard has missed 51 games due to injury or illness. In 2020, a metal plate was inserted inside his right ankle, but in spite of that, he has never looked comfortable out on the field of play.
Hazard could miss Euro 2020
Gol add that Real Madrid have not ruled out the possibility that Hazard's muscular problems could be related to the operation to insert a metal plate in his ankle, which is why this time, they would rather take a cautious approach and see if after physiotherapy, he could at least help the team in the latter stages of the campaign. Belgium have reached a compromise, Real Madrid takes priority and have agreed to Hazard undergoing rehabilitation with a member of the national team's medical staff in Madrid.
