Real Madrid: Florentino Pérez calls presidential elections
Real Madrid announced on Thursday that Los Blancos' club chief, Florentino Pérez, has called presidential elections at the LaLiga club.

Real Madrid confirm elections called in club statement
In a statement published on their official website on Thursday, Los Blancos said: "Following on from today's board meeting and in accordance with article 38, section b of the Real Madrid C. F. social statutes, the President has requested that the Electoral Board issue the call for elections for the President and Board of Directors."
Cox Energy chief Riquelme hints at presidential run
The announcement comes a week after Spanish businessman Enrique Riquelme, the founder and CEO of Cox Energy, suggested that he intends to stand for the Real Madrid presidency, which has been in Pérez’s hands since 2009.
Pérez was also in charge of the 13-time European champions from 2000 to 2006.
Real Madrid members haven't voted for president since 2006
According to club rules, Real Madrid’s more than 100,000 members choose their president in elections held a maximum of every four years.
However, they haven’t actually gone to the polls since back in 2006, when Ramón Calderón was voted into office ahead of Juan Palacios, Juan Miguel Villar Mir, Lorenzo Sanz and Arturo Baldasano.
Pérez was elected unopposed following Caldéron's resignation as president in 2009, and was again the only candidate in 2013 and 2017.
