Thanks for watching the minute-by-minute with AS.com of the first ever CONCACAF Nations League final. The United States defeated Mexico 3-2 to win the inaugural edition of the tournament with Ethan Horvath blocking a penalty kick from Andrés Guardado in the last minutes of the over-time.

The is the first collective triumph of the USMNT 'golden generation,' The players celebrate with Ethan Horvath and this team show that they have a strong mentality to go down one neal and win 3-2 at the end of 120 minutes.


They defeated Mexico 3-2 in the inaugural edition of the CONCACAF Nations League final and the win their first international title since the 2017 Gold Cup. 

Horvath with the save of his life!!!!!!! He is the hero of the USMNT! He blocked the penalty kick from Guardado! Out of this world and what a moment.


It is a penalty for the Mexico national team and they have the opportunity to level the score.

The referee is checking a possible handball from McKenzie inside the box of the USMNT.

Edson Alvarez comes out and Orbelin Pineda takes his place. 

GOOOOOOAL!!!!!!!!!!! Ice in the veins! Christian Pulisic makes a clinical shot from the penalty kick! Ochoa guessed the right way, but it had too much power and too much accuracy and he gives the USMNT the 2-1 lead.


Now it is Christian Pulisic versus Guillermo Ochoa for the title in Over time.

Hirving Lozano is booked!

After the referee checks the play, he decides that Salcedo trips Pulisic inside the box and a penalty is given to the USMNT.

It seems that Salcedo trips Pulisic with his left leg and Martino has been sent off.

The referee is checking the play, because there seems to be some contact against Pulisic inside the box.

Lainez squeezes the cross inside the six, but Horvath was able to block it anc take control of the ball.


Diego Lainez shoots from the distance and the ball barely goes wide. The Real Betis player has been key since he entered the match for the Mexico national team.

Andres Guardado and Carlos Salcedo come in to the game, replacing Hector Herrera and Hector Moreno. This is Mexico's last substitutions in the game.


McKenzie tackles Luis Romo, but the referee decides not to book him with a second yellow card.


Diego Lainez has made his presence felt since he entered the game. He keeps connecting with his teammates to create opportunities.  

Yedlin goes down and he might need to be substituted. The USMNT has one sub left due to stoppgae time.

The game will go to stoppage time! If the result remains the same it will go to penalty kicks.


As part of CONCACAF anti-discrimination protocol, the match has been temporarily suspended due to offensive chants in the stadium.

Diego Lainez is taken down just outside the box. Now Mexico has an opportunity to end the game with a set piece.

Tyler Adams comes in to replace Ream. Also Reyna comes out and Sebastian Lletget takes his place. 

W-E-S-T-O-N MCKENNIE with the header and elevates to find the back of the net! We are tied 2-2 with less than 10 minutes left.

DIEGO LAINEZ! DIEGOOOOOOOOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow what an individual play from the Real Betis player who made his presence felt and riffles the ball inside the box to give Mexico the lead.

Uriel Antuna comes out and he is replaced by Diego Lainez.


GUILLERMO OCHOA! He does it again! McKenzie headers the ball inside the six after a corner kick, but the goalkeeper from Mexico saves the ball from finding the back of the net.

There wa sa little scuffle between Nestor Araujo and USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter, but it didn't go that far and no one was booked.

WHAT A SAVE FROM GUILLERMO OCHOA! Weston McKennie headers the ball inside the six after a corner kick and Ochoa cleared the danger.

Zack Steffen can't continue and he has to be replaced by Ethan Horvath. Also Sargent leaves the game and Theoson Siebatcheu comes in.

Double substitution for 'El Tri' Henry Martín and Luis Romo come in to the game. The players that came out are CharlyRodríguez and Luis Romo.

Shot from Weston McKennie from outside the box was blocked by Guillermo Ochoa. The goalkeeper from Mexico gave a rebound, but Josh Sargent was not able to capitalized.


First substitution for the USMNT. Sergiño Dest comes out and he is replaced by Timothy Weah.

The Porto player gets up and he willl continue playing.

The second half has started between Mexico and United States for the CONCACAF Nations League final.

Claudio Reyna left a legacy with the USMNT and now his son just debuted at the biggest stage against theiir biggest rival, the Mexico national team.

The first half has ended and the score is level. 


WHAT A SAVE! Zach Steffen made an amazing! Herrera gave a wonderful pass to Hirving Lozano to leave the Napoli player alone against the Manchester City goalkeeper. Steffen makes a massive save as Lozano tried to curl the ball before entering the box.


Uriel Antuna makes a solo play on the right wing and he crossed the ball for Hirving Lozano who was inside the box and failed to impact the ball correctly. Another clear chance for 'El Tri' to increase the lead, but the Napoli player wasn't able to find the back of the net.


Gio Reyna gets down the right and puts in a cross to the back post but it's just a bit too heavy for Sargent.


Gio Reyna is the second youngest American to score against Mexico.Weston McKennie headered the ball after a corner kick, but his shot hit the post and Gio Reyna was inside the six to take advantage of the rebound and equalize the game.

GOOOOOOOAL!!!!!!! Gio Reyna levels the score with a clinical finish inside the six! What a goal for the 18-year-old.

Hector Herrera puts the ball inside the six and it caught all of the USMNT defense off guard. The referee checked the play and the Mexican defender was indeed offside. So the decision was reversed.

And the Mexico national team does it agaiN! Hector Moreno makes it 2-0 before the half.

Hector Moreno gives a long ball to Hirving Lozano, who was onside, but failed to control the ball and wasted another clear chance to extend the lead.

Yedlin makes a late challenge on 'Tecatito' Corona, who goes down immediately, but receives no booking by the referee, 


Josh Sargent intercepts the ball in the midfield and he is able to break away. The American striker enters the box and as the angle was closing he is able to shoot the ball, but goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa was able to block it and keep the clean sheet in the beginning of the match.

The high pressure from the Mexican side paid off and in the second minute of the game they take the lead thanks to 'Tecatito' Corona. The Porto Player intercepted a ball inside the box and riffled the ball inside the six to beat Steffen.

Early mistake from the USMNT defense and in 79 seconds Jesús Corona scores the opening goal. The Mexican international was alert and was active and capitalized from the mistake made by McKenzie inside the box to beat goalkeeper Zack Steffen.


Both teams have entered the Empowered Field at Mile High and the Mexican national anthem was played first, since they are the away team, and it is followed up by the United States national anthem.

This is the venue for the final between the Mexico national team and the USMNT.

Prior to facing Honduras in the semi-final of the CONCACAF Nations League, Chelsea’s No 10 spoke about his thirst for titles.

This year will be a test for us and we will know what this team is capable of. I believe in this group of players and the potential they have, but now it’s time for them to demonstrate it on the pitch. We have to start winning, because that will give us confidence for what’s ahead,” Berhalter said during Bobby Warshaw’s podcast.

During their four group games, the USMNT netted 15 goals and they have only lost once in their last 11 matches in all competitions. But Gerardo Martino’s men also go into the match in good form, as they have lost just once in their last 14 games.

Gregg Berhalter's side qualified for the final round of the competition after beating Honduras, while Mexico defeated Costa Rica on penalties.
