Moments after the race began, the drivers took off. All, that is, except for Mitch Evans, whoso Jaguar didn’t start. Most of the drivers were able to swing around the car, but Edoardo Mortara was going full speed and couldn’t brake before colliding into the back of Evans’ car and spinning it around.

When asked what could have caused the car to not start, Evans said, “I have no idea, it’s never ever happened in the hundreds of launches I've done in testing and throughout the whole season.”

The final results of the race

Evans was in a good position to beat Nyck de Vries in third place on the grid, but the crash ruined any chances of that. Vries went on to win the Formula E title, finishing eighth in the final race of the season.

Evans required no further medical attention, and Mortara was taken to a hospital for precautionary checks.
