Club América move top with win over Tijuana
The team from the capital are having a great start of the 2021 Apertura tournament and on matchday 6 defeated Tijuana 2-0 to go top.
It was not easy for Club América to move top of the table, but two late goals gave them the three points against Tijuana on matchday 6 of the 2021 Apertura tournament. Sebastián Córdova scored from the penalty spot (90+1) and Renato Ibarra sealed the victory (90+4) at the Azteca stadium on Sunday night.
América on top
This is Santiago Solari’s second tournament as manager of Club América and he has proven that he is the right man for the job. After six games they are top of the table with 16 points and a record of 5W-1D-0L.
The ‘Eagles’ have yet to lose a game, but against Tijuana it wasn’t easy for them. América have been criticized for their cautious style of play, but the most important thing is that they are winning at all costs. They had only four shots on target on Sunday night, but they controlled the game with 64% possession.
Late penalty drama
The visiting team seemed happy to share the points and in stoppage time América would make a last run to win the game. Striker Federico Viñas, received a nasty tackle inside the box in the 90th minute and the referee showed Luis Gamíz the red card and gave a penalty.
